Mandy Lee, care manager of maternal health at UnitedHealthcare, discussed a midwifery project the company is working on.
“We’re really looking at how the different stakeholders in the state are working toward their goals, and how we can help them meet their goals, and be able to live. We want our midwives to be able to live a good life; the same with our doulas. And (we’re) making sure people in the community know about midwifery, how safe it is, and that it’s a great alternative. Especially in rural areas, where we have low workforce, and might not have a local hospital. Midwifery can fill in the gaps, especially for low-risk pregnancies. And they have great outcomes.”
