At the 2023 Maryland State of Reform Health Policy Conference earlier this year, Angelo Edge, chief executive officer at Aetna Better Health of Maryland, said the ongoing redetermination of Medicaid eligibility is “without a doubt” the most important thing going on in Maryland healthcare. His organization has been working with the state on communicating with Medicaid beneficiaries about redeterminations since February—before the federal continuous coverage requirement for Medicaid ended.
“We’ve been ahead of schedule—we didn’t wait until the end of the public health emergency to begin that outreach, engagement, education because we felt it was extremely important to contact our members early, stay in contact with those individuals, and to provide as much time as possible for them to go through the process of updating their contact information, as well as updating their demographic and their income data for the redetermination process.”
