The 2024 Southern California State of Reform Health Policy Conference will once again take place in-person at the Westin Pasadena Hotel on September 11th, 2024!

The State of Reform conference is focused on bridging the gap between health policy and political reality. If you are interested in understanding what occurs at the nexus of healthcare and politics, then this is the conference for you! Our agenda will provide a forum for discussion on the local health policy issues facing the Southern California region.

CalAIM has substantially expanded benefits and coverage to Californians, but many residents remain without coverage despite these widescale Medi-Cal reforms. Bending the Healthcare Cost Curve

In this session, panelists will discuss current trends in healthcare costs, the impact of policies, economics and state programs on these cost trends, and healthcare cost management strategies.  Speakers will provide an overview of California cost trends, as measured by the Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA). You’ll also hear the hospital and physician group perspectives on cost containment. Other topics of focus will include the Managed Care Organization (MCO) tax, state programs, and physician-driven organizations’ role in improving care and managing the total cost of care for populations.

Addressing the Maternal Health Crisis in California

California has the largest proportion and the highest number of births in the US, representing about one out of every eight births in the nation. Medi-Cal covers approximately 41% of those births. While the state has made significant and positive trends through Medi-Cal coverage, significant disparities in birth outcomes persist. California recently added doula services as a covered benefit and expanded enhanced care management and community supports coverage for the birth equity populations of focus to address disparities. This panel will discuss emerging successful strategies to translate these policies and programs into services for families, as well as the lessons learned and how to scale these strategies.
