Providence Ambulatory Surgery Center in Spokane Valley approved

Washington State Department of Health approves Providence certificate of need application

Spokane, WA—Providence Health Services – Washington has received approval from the Washington State Department of Health of its certificate of need application to open an ambulatory (outpatient) surgery center in the Providence Medical Park located in Spokane Valley. The approval authorizes Providence to establish four operating rooms to serve both adult and pediatric patients.

“We are delighted with the Department’s decision and are excited to bring a greater complement of surgical specialties and services to the community,” says Elaine Couture, chief executive of Providence Health Care in Eastern Washington. “This decision will improve access for residents of Spokane Valley and surrounding communities to more cost-effective and convenient care. By shifting care from high-cost hospital settings to lower-cost, ambulatory or outpatient settings, Providence will be able to pass along cost savings to consumers”, continued Couture.

Providence is immediately moving ahead with hiring staff to work in the new ambulatory surgery center and anticipates being ready to serve patients by the end of this year.

Providence Medical Park, located on the north side of I-90, east of Sullivan, opened in April of this year and is a multispecialty center that puts primary and specialty physician offices, lab, diagnostic imaging, pharmacy services and urgent care together under one roof. The ambulatory surgery center will provide outpatient surgical services for patients who are admitted and discharged within twenty-four hours and do not require inpatient hospitalization.

“We sincerely appreciate the tremendous support and enthusiasm Providence has received from physicians, community, business and government leaders, as well as residents of Spokane Valley, throughout the certificate of need process,” said Couture. “Providence Medical Park, and its full contingent of services that will now include ambulatory surgery, is an extension of our Mission to bring exceptional care to the people we serve.
