Swedish Health Services fall under the umbrella of Providence St. Joseph Health, based out of Renton, Washington. At the end of July, the DOJ served Swedish with a Civil Investigative Demand, requesting documents related to “certain arrangements and joint ventures and physician organizations,” according to the earnings report.
Providence says that Swedish is cooperative with the DOJ and is compiling the documents. The earnings report also states that they estimate the DOJ probe will “be resolved without material adverse effect on the System’s future consolidated financial position or results of operations.”
In a statement to Modern Healthcare, Swedish stated,
“Like all large institutions, Swedish is subject periodically to investigations and lawsuits. Per our policy, we are not able to discuss the specifics of any investigation. However, Swedish fully cooperates with all investigations.”
Swedish operates five hospital campuses in the Puget Sound area, and has a network of 100 specialty and primary clinics in the Seattle metropolitan corridor. Swedish makes up 11% of Providence St. Joseph’s operating revenue, according to the report.
