2016 Washington State of Reform-Luncheon Keynote
Ahead of the legislative session, State of Reform’s luncheon keynote welcomed Rep. Eileen Cody (D-34) and Sen. Linda Evans Parlette (R-12) to the stage with Nathan Johnson, Chief Policy Officer of the Health Care Authority. While our event regularly welcomes policy makers, regulators, and agency heads, this marked a rare meeting of two prominent voices in the health care discussion from the Republican and Democratic parties on one stage.
“It takes a special breed of legislator to be willing to go up in front of a few hundred of their friends and debate and be willing to get into the weeds on what is–at least my opinion–one of the most complex areas of policy in state government, that is health care,” said host DJ Wilson in his introduction.
The group discussed the complex relationship between agencies and the legislature in driving reform, challenges in the state’s mental health system, and the next steps for ACHs.
