Coverage is Finally Here for More than 213,000 Residents

Richard ExchangeThe Dec. 23 deadline has come and gone, and we are days away from coverage beginning on Jan. 1. We are pleased to share that more than 200,000 Washington residents have now signed up for free or low-cost health coverage options since Oct. 1.

It’s exciting to know that the persistence and hard work of our many partners and staff members will now culminate in our customers finally taking advantage of these new health care benefits — many for the first time in their lives. We look forward to sharing some of the stories of these individuals in 2014.

While many will start their benefits in the New Year, we know that some of our customers experienced difficulty enrolling by the Dec. 23 deadline. That’s why we recently announced a solution that allows them additional time to finalize their applications and select a plan by Jan. 15. It’s critical that customers who are still seeking Jan. 1 coverage follow the important steps we’ve outlined to receive these benefits.

Customers should also know they may not receive their plan ID cards right away or may be subject to out of pocket expenses when they visit the doctor or their pharmacy. Customers can contact their health plans with any questions about how to use benefits before they receive ID cards.

With the first half of open enrollment now behind us, we will continue to update and improve Washington Healthplanfinder to make enrolling in health coverage a smoother process for our customers. Our IT staff is performing ongoing system updates, implementing data fixes, resolving error codes and running nightly batches of applications through the system to address any issues.

Remember, it’s not too late to sign up for a new health plan that will fit your needs and budget. The open enrollment period continues through March 31, 2014, for coverage beginning after Jan. 1.

Thank you for all of your support in 2013. We wish you a Happy New Year!
