Moda’s statement on withdrawing from the Washington insurance marketplace

Statement from Moda Health on Its Withdrawal from the Washington Insurance Market

We have today notified the Washington Insurance Commissioner of our withdrawal from the health insurance market in Washington state.  Our decision to withdraw from that market affords us greater capacity to serve our core markets in Oregon and Alaska.

Effective immediately, Moda will cease all sales and renewals of health insurance plans in the individual, small group and large group markets in Washington state.  In order to ease the transition for our customers to new carriers, we have agreed with the Commissioner as follows:

Individual Market: Moda will continue to fulfill all Washington contracts signed on or renewed before October 31, 2015 until they expire according to their terms.

Small Group Market: Moda will continue to fulfill all existing Washington contracts signed on or renewed before October 31,2015 with an effective date prior to January 1, 2016 until they expire according to their terms.

Large Group Market: Moda will continue to fulfill all existing Washington contracts signed on or renewed before October 31, 2015 with an effective date prior to January 1, 2016 until they expire according to their terms.

We have already notified the Washington Health Benefit Exchange of our decision to withdraw, effective immediately.

We will also be responsible for notifying all affected enrollees of our decision to withdraw from Washington.

We thank the Washington Commissioner and his staff for their assistance in effecting our withdrawal from the market.
