98point6 pairs AI and machine learning to make primary care more accessible via a mobile app. Their platform offers on-demand, text-based access to virtual primary care.

Sutter Health | Aetna’s custom 98point6 platform will allow members to text, talk, or video chat with board-certified doctors 27/7. Doctors can then write prescriptions, suggest in-network referrals for other services or specialists, or order labs.

“Sutter Health | Aetna is committed to providing members with convenient, high-quality healthcare options to meet the demands of their busy and connected lives,” said Steve Wigginton, Sutter Health | Aetna CEO in a prepared statement. “We’re actively seeking innovative ways to deliver a differentiated member experience and we are pleased to integrate 98point6 into our network of care.”

This latest announcement falls in line with comments Wigginton made in a Q&A with State of Reform in October. In that conversation, Wigginton outlined some of the areas of innovation that Sutter Health | Aetna will be working on.

“The biggest area we are focused on is being, as we say, ‘always there,’ and innovative forms of access — particularly for your front-line health care experiences… You have an ever-increasing cohort of individuals who expect to be able to leverage their phone for almost anything. Our challenge is to connect these new, innovative access features to a core, clinical infrastructure which Sutter Health and Stanford and our other providers provide,” said Wigginton. “So, opening up these new modalities, these new ways to access, [is a primary focus] — particularly the front-lines of health care.”

Access to this new 98point6 platform will be available for members January 1, 2020.

“We’re excited to find a partner in Sutter Health | Aetna that shares our vision of providing affordable access to quality care,” said Robbie Cape, CEO and co-founder of 98point6. “We look forward to being a part of their offering and delivering an exceptional member experience.”
