City Club of Portland to host forum on rural healthcare
On Friday, November 17th, The City Club of Portland will host a forum entitled: “Rural Healthcare in Oregon: Not big city medicine.” As part of their “Friday Forum” series, this meeting will discuss the unique healthcare challenges rural Oregonians face, and the potential solutions to these issues.
“Rural Oregonians suffer shorter life expectancies, higher death rates from chronic diseases, and poorer access to healthcare than Oregonians in urban areas. Some rural areas in Oregon have no health providers at all.”
The event will feature panelists Bruce Goldberg, MD, Senior Associate Director of Oregon Rural Practice Based Research Network at OHSU, and District 1 Oregon State Senator Jeff Kruse. Goldberg previously served as Director of DHS and as the founding director at OHA. Sen. Kruse is the vice chair of the Oregon Senate Committee on Health Care.
Serena Cruz, Executive Director of the Virginia Garcia Memorial Foundation, will serve as the moderator for this panel. Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center works to provide quality healthcare in Washington and Yamhill counties. They specialize in assisting migrant and seasonal farmworkers in accessing healthcare.
