Peak Health Alliance expands to Southwest Colorado

Peak Health Alliance, the first nonprofit community health insurance purchasing co-op announced that services will expand beyond its original starting point in Summit County. These counties include: Archuleta, Dolores, Grand, La Plata, Montezuma and San Juan.

Peak will provide guidance and technical support to the other independent affiliates who will start co-ops in other countries. The model, however, will be similar to that implemented in Summit County– counties will negotiate rates with local health care providers in order to save residents money.

The expansion into other counties will expand Peak’s reach and customer base by nearly 20,000.

Grand County will be the first to implement the service, and businesses will be able to choose Peak Health Alliance plans beginning January 2020 and individuals can follow in January 2021. Other Southwest Counties will follow by 2022.

The expansion of Peak’s network is likely to have residual effects in Summit County, continuing to drive down health care costs along the Western Slope.
