Priority Health recently announced the launch of their virtual-first primary care plan called Virtual Care Partners exclusively to the employer market with 51+ employees.

According to a Priority Health’s announcement, the model is designed to incentivize new, high quality virtual care delivery to personalize care and lower in-person care costs. The plan also aims to address barriers to accessing primary care while giving the patient their “optimal care.” The plan will be available on July 1st for Michigan-based employers.

According to the press release, about 65 million Americans live in primary care deserts and 32% of adults have deferred care during the pandemic, further exacerbating access issues to primary care. However, the pandemic expanded telehealth and virtual care platforms, making it easier for many to access care.

Virtual Care Partners aims to build out telehealth services to expand access to care in a post-pandemic space as well.

The plan includes tiered benefits at no cost, 24/7 online support, and a virtual care team of primary care providers, therapists, registered nurses, and medical assistants. Priority Health said the primary care providers will have a “360-degree view” of a member’s health needs and be able to engage better with their patients in this virtual model.

Priority Health hopes the new plan will offer a “more unified and engaging care experience that ultimately drives behavioral change and better health outcomes.”

“Today’s consumers are often delaying necessary care due to access, convenience or cost. We know that the more difficult it is to access health care, the harder it is to get and stay healthy,” said Megan Schmidt, Senior Vice President of Employer Solutions at Priority Health. “Through the launch of Virtual Care Partners, employers will be able to offer their employees convenient and affordable access to their PCP right from their home, making it easier than ever to manage their health and reduce gaps in care.”
