Hawaii announces new Medicaid RFP results

The Hawaii Department of Human Services (DHS) announced on Thursday the awardees for its new Medicaid managed care contracts.

DHS awarded the contracts to five health plans.

AlohaCare, HMSA, ‘Ohana Health Plan, and United Healthcare Community Plan were awarded statewide contracts, and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan was awarded a contract for Oahu and Maui only.

In its announcement, the department wrote:

“QUEST Integration members will continue to receive service through their currently enrolled health plan since there will be no changes to the current health plans nor to the areas that they serve.”

DHS released the QUEST Integration Medicaid Managed Care RFP in December. The RFP was released after DHS announced it was rescinding the Medicaid managed care contract awards previously announced in January 2020 due to the “evolving needs of the community” during the COVID-19 crisis.

The contracts are scheduled to go into effect July 1, 2021.
