Anthem introduces Blue Connection

Anthem Blue Cross is introducing Blue Connection, a new health plan option designed to meet the needs of Bay Area businesses and their employees by lowering medical costs and improving health outcomes. Blue Connections offers employers a savings of up to 25% compared to Anthem’s standard PPO.

“Blue Connection provides members with a more engaging way to access the healthcare delivery system that is both simple and affordable,” said Beth Andersen, president of Anthem Blue Cross commercial plans. “We’re committed to improving lives and communities by providing access to affordable healthcare, and we are excited to tailor this to the specific needs of businesses and consumers in the greater San Francisco Bay Area.”

An Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO), Blue Connection has direct access to 3,500 doctors and health care professionals in the Bay Area, including more than 2,500 behavioral heath providers. It has partnered with Hill Physicians, Dignity Health, John Muir Health, MarinHealth and Santa Clara County IPA.

“Hill Physicians is pleased to collaborate with Anthem to deliver a new innovative product to members and patients. The combination of a high-performing network, new technology solutions, and innovative patient engagement is an important step forward,” said David Joyner, CEO, Hill Physicians Medical Group.

Dignity Health is participating in the program, as well.

“Dignity Health is participating in the Anthem Blue Connection network because we recognize the importance of a model that empowers both the provider and member throughout the health care journey,” said Bill Graham, president, Dignity Health Sequoia Hospital.

The plan offers digital tools for both patients and providers, including an interface to help select primary care physicians, schedule appointments online and allows for specialist follow-ups digitally and telephonically.

Blue Connection offers integrated pharmacy benefits though IngenioRX and gives users access to Sydney Health,  Anthem’s new artificial intelligence personal health assistant app.

“As California’s second largest health plan, providing health care services to more than 8.6 million health plan members in California, we are deeply invested in the health and well-being of all Californians, workers and their families,” Andersen said.
