Washington’s Most Wired hospitals and health systems

Hospitals & Health Networks and the American Hospital Association released their 2017 Health Care’s Most Wired survey. The survey measures the level of IT adoption in hospitals and health systems.

The results show that Most Wired hospitals use patient engagement strategies at a higher percentage than all hospitals. Most Wired hospitals also use data and analytics to foster a culture of self-improvement at a higher percentage than all hospitals.

  • 82% provide tools for retrospective analysis of clinical and administrative data
  • 76% provide secure messaging with clinicians
  • 74% use predictive modeling and data for decision-making across departments
  • 71% provide data analytics-tools training to physicians
  • 69% interface EHR data with population health tools
  • 62% incorporate patient-generated data
  • 54% identify and tag own patient groups and develop internal registries
  • 51% use analytics to measure value-based care
  • 46% share clinicians’ visit notes with patients
  • 45% initiate a patient pathway that uses health IT to follow a care plan-specific set of processes
  • 40% offer virtual care with a physician
  • 32% support real-time patient identification and tracking for value-based care

“I think we see a shift here from, ‘How do I get this tech?’ to ‘How do I deploy this for our strategic objectives?’” said Chantal Worzala, vice president, health IT and policy operations at the AHA.

Jefferson Healthcare in Port Townsend was named Most Wired in the Small and Rural category, along with 24 other hospitals nationwide. UW Medicine/Northwest Hospital & Medical Center was among the most improved.
