25th Anniversary

As market share leader, more North Texans choose Texas Health for their acute care needs than any other health system in the area. That translates into more than 600,000 babies delivered, over 2 million surgeries performed, more than 16 million emergency department visits and, more recently during the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 314,000 vaccinations given.

“When we came together 25 years ago, our goal was to join the strength of our hospitals to form a sustainable regional healthcare system for generations to come,” said Barclay Berdan, FACHE, CEO, Texas Health Resources. “Texas Health could not have achieved this impact without the dedication of the organization’s employees and volunteers, and physicians on the medical staffs.”

During these 25 years, Texas Health cemented its position as a leader in Dallas-Fort Worth healthcare market. With nearly 400 locations and a dedication to offering new and innovative care models, including virtual and in-home care, the system offers access to care when and where patients need it. And, the organization is committed to growing with North Texas, not only opening new access points but also through major expansions to existing campuses in Fort Worth and Denton this year, and a planned expansion in Dallas in 2023.

Caring for the community — including beyond the walls of its hospitals and venues – is one of the ways the organization excels. Over the past quarter century, the system has provided more than $13 billion in charity care and community benefit. Texas Health was recently honored for its community health initiatives with the distinguished American Hospital Association Foster G. McGaw Prize. This special recognition is reserved for healthcare organizations that demonstrate exemplary commitment to establishing and facilitating programs that improve the overall health and well-being of its community. Texas Health was applauded for its work in the Blue Zones Project, community engagement and COVID-19 response.

A core strength of Texas Health is the longevity of its employees and its nationally recognized culture.

“Texas Health has made a significant impact on improving the health of the people in the communities we serve over the past 25 years,” Berdan said. “That couldn’t have been done without the commitment of our team. We are currently nearly 27,000 employees strong, with 1,221 who have been with us for more than 25 years. The strength of being a system has allowed Texas Health to create a wealth of career growth and professional development opportunities for employees.”

Texas Health has received numerous recognitions for its workplace culture. The health system has been ranked on Fortune magazine’s 100 Best Companies to Work For list since 2014 and was ranked for seven years on Fortune’s #1 Best Workplaces in Healthcare list. Texas Health has also been recognized by People magazine, LinkedIn and The Dallas Morning News for its workplace culture.

The system’s nurses have also been widely recognized for excellence. Five hospitals have achieved the American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet® Designation and 10 facilities have received the American Nurses Credentialing Center Pathway to Excellence® designation.

“While we know the past two years have been challenging in healthcare, the industry is on the brink of an exciting, consumer-centric evolution,” said Winjie Miao, senior executive vice president and COO of Texas Health Resources. “We are inspired to boldly innovate for the future, and I’m excited to see what the next 25 years hold for the health and well-being of the North Texans we serve.”
