SelectHealth announced an agreement with the University of Utah Health (U of U) earlier this month which adds U of U hospitals, clinics, and providers into the SelectHealth Medicare Advantage network. The agreement aims to meet the growing demand for services among SelectHealth Medicare Advantage members and will be effective July 1st, 2022.

“To achieve our mission of helping people live the healthiest lives possible and best serve our senior community, it’s important our Medicare Advantage members access care in a manner most convenient to them,” said Marti Lolli, SelectHealth President and CEO. “We believe this agreement will improve member satisfaction and allow members greater choice in their primary care provider or specialist, as well as access to everything from preventive care to emergency services in locations closest to home.”

Chris Engh, Contracting and Affordability Manager at SelectHealth, said that as Utah’s aging population continues to grow and demand for the Medicare Advantage plan increases, seniors will need more flexibility, convenience, and options with their care. It will expand their network to more needed specialists and allow seniors to access care closer to home.

“This was really just a great opportunity for us to further our already great relationship with the University of Utah and take it to the next step for our Medicare Advantage plan by offering a full spectrum of care,” Engh said. “It will offer everything from a basic PCP office visit to state of the art cancer treatment at Huntsman Cancer Institute.”

The effort will open access to many new providers and facilities including the University of Utah Hospital, Moran Eye Center, University Orthopaedic Center, and 12 community clinics. The partnership also includes 1,400 U of U providers across the state, which Engh said will be beneficial for many outside of Salt Lake County.

“We are excited about this new partnership with SelectHealth,” said Michael Good, MD, CEO of University of Utah Health. “By working together, we are able to provide the best care for our seniors. This alliance is a very meaningful way in which we can better serve people and communities and provide greater access and convenience to those who receive their health care through Medicare Advantage.”

Mark Wankier, Provider Relations Director at SelectHealth, said this will provide more access and allow people to live their healthiest lives, which is part of SelectHealth’s mission.

“We want to make sure that we’re providing this access that contributes to our mission which is helping people live the healthiest lives possible,” Wankier said. “That really guides and drives our decisions around this, and we hope that that contributes to doing exactly that.”
