
Abbott announces fourteen new Texas Medical Board appointments
Gov. Gregg Abbott announced new appointments to both the District One and District Two Review Committees of the Texas Medical Board on Thursday. These appointees are responsible for evaluating medical practices in their respective districts.
Each committee consists of three physicians who are doctors of medicine, one physician who is a doctor of osteopathic medicine, and three members of the public.
The new appointees for District One are:
Antoinette “Toni” Jackson
Jackson is an Attorney and Principal for the Banks Law Firm, and a Member of the Texas Affiliation of Affordable Housing Providers, Urban Land Institute, Texas Southern University Foundation, and Houston Habitat for Humanity
Sheela Lahoti, M.D.
Lahoti is the Associate Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs at the McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She is also a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Aundrea Young
Young is the owner and President of Competitive Choice, Inc.
David Davila, D.O.
Davila is being reappointed to this position. He is a cosmetic surgeon at Houston Cosmetic Surgery Center. He is also a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association, the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons, and the Harris County Medical Society.
Courtney Townsend, M.D.
Townsend is being reappointed to this position. She is a surgeon and the Robertson-Poth Distinguished Chair in General Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch – School of Medicine. He is also a member of the Galveston County Medical Society, the American Surgical Association, the American College of Surgeons, and the Texas Surgical Society.
Imran Dar, M.D.
Dar is an Assistant Professor and Interventional Cardiologist at UT Health – Center for Advanced Cardiology. He is also a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Cardiology, and the American Heart Association.
Kimberly Phillips
Phillips is the General Counsel for Global Litigation at Shell Oil Company. She is a member of the National Bar Association, the Houston Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, and the Institute for Energy Law. She is also a former director for the Texas Lyceum Association.
The new appointees for District Two are:
Zachary Jones, M.D.
Jones is an anesthesiologist with Metropolitan Anesthesia Consultants. He is also a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists, the Texas Medical Association, and the Dallas County Medical Society.
Lewis Benavides
Benavides is the Senior Associate Vice President for Human Resources at Texas Women’s University. He is also a member of the College and University Professional Association, the National Museum of the Pacific War, and the Admiral Nimitz Foundation.
Carrie de Moor, M.D.
Moor is an Emergency Medicine Physician and managing partner with Driven MD, PLLC. She is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, the Texas Medical Association, the Texas College of Emergency Physicians, and the Collin-Fannin County Medical Society.
Clyde Loll
Loll is the Vice President of Compliance and Quality, Health, Safety and Environment at Gulf Coast Marine Contractors. He is also a member of the International Board of Certified Safety Managers, the American Society of Quality, and the American Medical Society of Safety Professionals.
Robert Simonson, D.O.
Simonson is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He is also a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, the American Medical Association, the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the National Association of Emergency Medical Services Physicians, the Texas Medical Association, and the Southern Medical Association.
Angela Downes
Downes is a Law Professor at the University of Texas – Dallas College of Law. He is also a Texas Bar Fellow and a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, the Dallas Bar Association, the Texas Mediation Credentialing Association, and the Association of Attorney Mediators.
Ivan Rovner, M.D.
Rovner is the President and Managing Partner of North Texas Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates. He is also a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Texas Medical Association, and the Collin-Fannin County Medical Society.
Abbott has not announced appointments for Districts Three and Four.
