Hawaii announces Medicaid RFP results

The State of Hawaii MedQUEST announced the apparently successful bidders for its “QUEST Integration Managed Care” RFP.

The two winners of the statewide contract were HMSA and United Healthcare.

The two additional winners to cover the island of Oahu only were AlohaCare and Ohana Health Plan.

Ohana is owned by WellCare, recently acquired by Centene.

Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, which is currently operating as a fifth MCO, responded to this RFP in an affiliation model with AlohaCare.  Kaiser will remain as a key provider on Maui, regardless of its role as a Medicaid payer in this RFP process.
