Tori Abe To Succeed Ken Zeri As President and Chief Professional Officer of Hospice Hawaii
The Hospice Hawaii board of directors has selected Tori Abe as its new President and Chief Professional Officer, effective December 1, 2017. She will succeed Ken Zeri, who will retire after more than 31 years of service in hospice care.
Abe is currently Chief Strategy Officer at Hospice Hawaii, where she oversees marketing and fundraising, admissions, leadership, special projects and strategy development. Abe was responsible for developing a community relations strategy and new brand identity that has resulted in increased awareness and understanding of hospice. As a member of the senior leadership team, she also directed development and implementation of operational improvement, resulting in improved quality of care and collaboration throughout the organization.
Hospice Hawaii Board Chair Jim Alberts called Abe a natural fit for the position. “Tori’s proven leadership experience, creative thinking and ability to problem-solve for Hospice Hawaii will serve the organization well. She has an unwavering passion and commitment to our mission. Her promotion should come as no surprise, as it is part of a well-thought out internal succession plan that we’re confident will prove successful.”
Added Abe, “To be given the opportunity to lead Hospice Hawaii is truly an honor. I’m excited to take on this increased responsibility, as we continue to serve our community and provide the highest quality hospice care to patients and their families. I look forward to building on Ken’s legacy while enabling Hospice Hawaii to grow and evolve with the changing times.”
Prior to joining Hospice Hawaii in 2008, Abe was Vice President of Marketing & Business Development for Hawaii Pacific Entertainment. She also previously held positions with Destination Marketing Hawaii, KHON-TV and Starr Seigle McCombs.
Recognized as an emerging leader, Abe was recently selected into the 2018 Pacific Century Fellows program, which identifies, encourages and helps to develop and strengthen island leaders. Active in professional organizations, she is Chair of the steering committee for AD UP Hawaii, member of the steering committee for Kokua.org, Treasurer and Board Member for the American Advertising Federation – Hawaii and past Board Member for the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Born and raised in Hawaii, Abe holds a Master’s degree in business administration from Hawaii Pacific University and a Bachelor’s degree in communication from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
