Governor Walker Urges Passage of Bipartisan Health Care Legislation

ANCHORAGE—Governor Bill Walker joined nine other governors urging Congressional leaders to expedite passage of bipartisan legislation to make quality health insurance more affordable. Senator Lisa Murkowski has cosponsored the bill.

“I am pleased to see that federal lawmakers are coming together in a bipartisan manner to both protect and increase access to affordable health care coverage.

“For the past few months, my health care policy team has worked closely with members of the Trump Administration, our Congressional Delegation and other governors to ensure that health care reform is not just good policy, but protects Alaskans.

“Alaskans pay more for health care than most Americans do. Right now, more than 36,000 Alaskans have access to affordable health care thanks to Medicaid expansion, and some health insurance premiums have dropped more than 20 percent due to the reinsurance program made possible through the innovation waiver granted by the Trump Administration under the existing health care law. That coverage must be protected. Access to affordable health care coverage is crucial to building a Stronger Alaska.” –Governor Bill Walker
