To: All Oregon Health Authority employees
From:  Patrick Allen, Director

I am honored and humbled today to be named permanent director of the Oregon Health Authority. I want to thank all of you for welcoming me to OHA. I appreciate Governor Kate Brown for placing her confidence in me to lead this agency. I’m committed to working with you to improve the health of every Oregonian.

In my time at OHA, I have been impressed by the quality of the team and the importance of what we do each day. Just yesterday I had a chance to tour the Junction City campus of Oregon State Hospital. I was really inspired to see the way hospital staff work with patients. Everyone was focused on helping patients get well, so they can return home to their families and friends. Every interaction between staff and patients helped move people farther along the road to recovery. Every job at the hospital plays an important role in that process.

The hospital’s great work is just one aspect of the many ways our agency makes Oregon a healthier place to live.

Yet we don’t do this work alone. In the past few weeks I’ve talked to leaders from coordinated care organizations, providers, community non-profits, advocates, business leaders and many other people who care about health care in Oregon. Over and over, I hear our partners echo the same view: they all want a strong partnership with OHA. They’re committed to our success. I’ve told them trust and collaboration are our goals, too.

I also tell our partners that it’s OHA staff who make the work happen. Now more than ever, my job as Director is to help you do your job. I know I still have a lot more to learn. I want to hear your thoughts, your ideas and your questions. We have many challenges and uncertainties ahead of us, but I know we can overcome them by working together.

I look forward to hearing from you about the work you do and how I can support you.
