What They’re Watching: Jose Camacho

Jose Camacho, executive director of the Texas Association of Community Health Centers, joins us in this edition of What They’re Watching to talk about taking time to understand the details during healthcare reform.

I think the Trump administration can have either a positive or a negative impact depending on what level of detail you look. The positive impact can result from getting away from bumper sticker policy. Repeal the ACA; it’s a disaster. Well, when we’re studying it now, it’s harder than we thought. It has to be a more thoughtful approach. There’s a lot of moving parts, and so let’s spend the time to understand the issues; let’s spend the time to evaluate the impact, and then let’s make a decision.

If we’re still at the point where it matters a lot more to cut the budget than it matters to improve health, to improve productivity, to improve quality in what many consider the best health care system in the world, then so be it. That’s a political decision, not a policy one.
