Premera will offer health plans in Grays Harbor County in 2018

Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler issued the following statement about his efforts to resolve the lack of individual health insurance options in Grays Harbor and Klickitat counties in 2018.

Following repeated discussions, I am pleased that Premera Blue Cross has decided to offer two individual health plans to consumers in Grays Harbor County in 2018. This is welcome news for that community.

The plans will be offered through the Washington Health Benefit Exchange, where consumers who qualify can get subsidies to help pay their premiums.

I continue to work diligently with insurers to offer health insurance options for consumers in Klickitat County. My office is doing all it can to get this concern resolved as quickly as possible. I remain optimistic that my discussions with insurers will prove successful for Klickitat County.

Grays Harbor and Klickitat counties initially did not have any proposed plans for next year when insurers filed proposals with my office on June 7. I immediately contacted insurers, urging them to reconsider their plans for 2018.

We share a concern about consumers having no options. Every county should be covered.

Kreidler’s office is reviewing all rate proposals for 2018. Rates and coverage areas may change during the review. No final decisions will be made until early fall.
