The pandemic has shifted the politics and public opinion on health care. Where cost was a primary concern before COVID, now access to affordable innovations like vaccines is top of consumers and policy makers minds. So, as a return to normalcy appears on the horizon, the intersection of cost pressures and innovation in pharmacy is becoming a primary topic of concern in health policy. This session will review the latest in prescription drugs and pharmacy, from the science breakthroughs to the policy conversations.

Rep. Michael Burgess serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee as the Republican Leader of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on health, and is also a member of the House Rules Committee. As part of the 117th Congress, he is the most senior medical doctor serving in the House of Representatives. After spending almost 30 years practicing medicine in North Texas, He has been serving the constituents of the 26th district since 2003.
Annette Guarisco Fildes is President and CEO of the ERISA Industry Committee. She is a strategic public policy and political counselor with over 30 years of experience. As a senior executive team member at General Motors, she led federal legislative affairs and political and grassroots advocacy at the federal, state, and international levels, and advised the GM Board of Directors on global public policy.
Wayne Winegarden is a Sr. Fellow in Business & Economics, Pacific Research Institute, as well as the Director of PRI’s Center for Medical Economics and Innovation. His policy research explores the connection between macroeconomic policies, and economic outcomes, with a focus on fiscal policy, and the healthcare industry. Dr. Winegarden’s columns have been published in the Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, Forbes.com, and USA Today.
