What They’re Watching: Carmen Mendez, Yakima City Councilmember
Carmen Mendez is a Yakima City Councilmember and is on the Arcora Foundation Board of Trustees. She joins us in this edition of “What They’re Watching” to discuss tele-dentistry.
“So, one of the things that I’m very excited about is the opportunity for tele-dentistry, especially in rural communities. I come from Yakima — so central Washington area. We have a huge population of Native American and Latinos and so it’s important that we have the ability to provide them a new and innovative way for access when it comes to oral health…
Last year, I took a trip with the Arcora Foundation to Alaska and we had a great opportunity to see how tele-dentistry works in a rural community and the impact that it’s been making with the Native American community there. So, the fact that they’re able to call in through the tele-dentistry method has been great for that community and they’ve seen a huge difference in oral health outcomes.”
