What They’re Watching: Marty Gallegos

Marty Gallegos, senior vice president at the Hospital Association of Southern California, joins us in this edition of What They’re Watching to discuss reimbursement reform.

There’s a move by the federal government and just a trend in general in healthcare reform to move from the old type of payment where the more you did the more you got paid to whatever you do had better be high quality and demonstrate value or you’re not going to get paid as much as someone who does a better job of demonstrating value. Those are very challenging, there are going to be cuts to reimbursement through the federal programs and through the private commercial programs, so the challenge there is how do you maintain the services that you currently have and/or expand the services based on the need in the community and do it knowing that you’re going to have less resources to do that with.
