What They’re Watching: Ramona Ramadas

Ramona Ramadas, director of Cope Health Solutions, joins us in this edition of What They’re Watching to discuss the social determinants of health.

I’ve been participating in supporting labor work in New York State, a little bit in Texas, and a little bit in California. And it’s been really interesting to start to get involved with what’s going on in Washington because none of those states that I’ve been working in have been talking about social determinants of health. And so the observation that I made was that these organizations really seem to be leading with that conversation and seem to be completely excited to embrace it and are coming out of the gate with some thoughts around social determinants and how they’re going to solve for this.

We don’t really know what those projects will look like, what’s the tactical work that has to be done, and so I think that’s something that the ACH’s are already thinking about is, you know, “What is this going to look like? Is it going to help us to further the seeds that we’ve planted? Or is the waiver work going to take us on a side path?” And I think, until we really see what those projects look like and what it’s going to take to actually implement them, it’s going to be a little bit tricky to figure out where we go from here.
